Sister Libraries Program

Table of contents:

Introduction

Sister Libraries have been part of theAmerican Library Association for a number of years. There are any number of opportunities for libraries wishing to more effectively connect with their counterparts in other countries from around the world.

"Libraries build community, but today's community is a global one. Many of today's library users have immigrated from other countries. Many routinely travel for pleasure and conduct business abroad. Becoming a Sister Library is an opportunity to build relationships with libraries in other cultures that can help us learn, understand and better serve our own community." - Sarah Ann Long, President, 1999-2000, American Library Association

Recently, San Diego State University and the CETYS Universidad library system in Baja California decided to explore a Sister Library relationship of their own. As part of this library partnership these two libraries and their staff have established some guidelines for this relationship. On the following pages you will see the commitment we have made to one another, as well as some of the photographs documenting our two libraries working together across the border. We look forward to working with CETYS Universidad libraries for the betterment of the San Diego and Tijuana work area.

Sister Libraries Agreement

The formal agreement between the San Diego State University Library and Information Access and CETYS Universidad library system in Baja California is available in Spanish and English (MS Word format).
