Introduction

The purpose of this guide is to assist students and researchers in finding information on sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS using key resources available in print or electronically at the SDSU Library.

Begin with encyclopedias and other reference works for general information or to help in narrowing a topic for research. Articles in journals will provide current research in the field. Selected web sites provide government reports, surveillance data, research on prevention and treatments, and more.

Finding books

Books are listed in the PAC (The Library's catalog) by author, title and subject. Books on AIDS/HIV and sexually transmitted diseases are found under the LC subject heading "AIDS" and related terms, including the following.

If you have trouble finding a relevant subject heading, try the "Words" search option.

The PAC is interlinked with two union catalogs. SD Circuit is a joint catalog of SDSU, UCSD, USD, and CSUSM. Link+ is a joint catalog for many of the CSU campuses plus a number of private universities throughout the state of California. Repeat your search in Circuit or Link+ to find other readily available books on your topic.
