The Edelstein Center in partnerships with SciELO and with the support of the Open Society Institute (OSI) has created a site containing the principal social science journals of Latin America translated into English. NASA's (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission)SRTM
released the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data in files available at: http://edc.usgs.gov/geodata/
For Windows:
Click on a coordinate file for the lower left corner of a cell (example: S16W070.hgt.zip for Lake Titicaca) and save to your desktop. To extract these zipped .hgt files, you can use WinZip: when file icon appears on desktop, right click and chose Unzip-in-Place. Go to 3DEM website and download their program. Save to your 'Program Files'. You have to run 3DEM's setup.exe file. Then open 3DEM, pull down File menu and choose 'Load Terrain Model' and then OK 'SRTM data'. Click on the unzipped file to open.
