Introduction
This guide provides a strategy for locating government technical reports. It lists major indexes for identifying technical reports and will help you determine if the reports are available in the SDSU Library or on the Internet. Locating technical reports can be difficult, please ask a librarian for assistance if you do not find what you need.
Atomic Energy Commission (AEC)
OpenNet Database. Documents declassified after October 1994-ongoing.
- Indexes some AEC records located in the National Archives and Records Administration and the Department of Energy (DOE) Headquarters' History Division. The index includes records that predate the Manhattan Project.
- The DOE Test Videoclip Database provides access to video of nuclear weapons test films. Clips are available online and complete videos can be purchased. Search by keyword.

Bureau of Mines (BuMINES)

The Bureau of Mines produced technical literature relating to the mineral industry and its mining, milling, and exploration. It was abolished in 1996 by the 104th Congress and its functions were transferred to other agencies. Mining health and safety concerns were transferred to National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Mining and mineral research were transferred, primarily, to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Department of Energy (DOE)

Energy research has been sponsored by several agencies. From 1946-1974 energy research was coordinated by the Atomic Energy Commission ( AEC ). In 1975, AEC ceased and the responsibilities were split and transferred to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission ( NUREG ) and the Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA). In a 1977 consolidation, ERDA became part of the Department of Energy (DOE).
