Subject Guide for Public Use Microdata Samples (PUMS)
See also: Census Publications
Public Use Microdata Samples (PUMS) provide records for a sample of housing units with information on the characteristics of each unit and each person in it. These microdata files from the census preserve the confidentiality of the households and persons, but enable users with special requirements to create custom tables not found in standard census files. PUMS are available in 5% and 1% samples only. This specialized data requires statistical software in order to use it.
