Selecting A Topic
There are a variety of ways for finding a topic that interests you:
Did a particular class lecture interest you?
Is there a section of your textbook that caught your attention and makes you want to find out more about that topic? If so, are additional references given?
Skim through some recent issues of journals in parasitology; some titles are:
- Trends in Parasitology
- Internet,
v. 17 (2001) to date
Previously known as Parasitology Today, Internet, v. 12-16 (1996-2000) - Advances in Parasitology
- QH 547 A38 5th Floor Books, v. 1 (1963) to date
- Journal of Parasitology
- QL 757 J6 Periodicals, v. 37 (1951) to date; pre-1951 volumes in Compact Shelving
- International Journal for Parasitology
- Internet, v. 25 (1995) to date
NOTE: We are currently moving the bound journal volumes. Please check our Move Progress page to see what's where today.
In addition, take a look through the material listed below to find ideas. These will all provide you with additional readings as well.
Background Information
As you look through these sources listed here, keep an eye out for the following information to help you in locating additional resources:
- Terms and phrases used to describe your topic. The English language uses many synonyms.
- Identify parameters such as taxonomic classification, geographic location, disease state, or ecological environment
- Identify important researchers
- Other books and journal articles suggested by these books
The Encyclopedia of Life Sciences is an online encyclopedia. Searching is a bit tricky, so you may or may not find an article on your topic. If there is one, you will find a good current overview with references.
