General tips and LC headings
The PAC is the online tool used for
finding books and reports in the SDSU Library. Books can be searched by
author, title,
or subject.
Specific subject searches by artist's name, artistic movement, or the type of art plus a geographic
location tend to be the most helpful, such as:

Finding articles
The major art databases are the best place to look for articles, particularly if you need
scholarly sources.
Interdisciplinary databases will cover magazines, trade publications, and newspapers, with some coverage of
scholarly journals.

Images
When searching for digital images, keep in mind the importance of a high resolution image. A resource like
ARTstor, for instance, contains high
quality images, with valuable information about the image itself. Museum websites are also excellent sources of
images from their collections.
AccuNet/AP Multimedia Archive
Contains photographs, audio sound bytes, graphics and text spanning over 160 years of history, from the
Associated Press.
ARTstor. Prehistory to present.
Digital art images and descriptive information covering art, architecture and archeology.
Library of Congress's American Memory Project
American Memory provides free access to written and spoken words, sound recordings, still and
moving images, prints, maps, and sheet music that document the American experience.
Web Gallery of Art
Contains digital reproductions of European art works from 1150 through 1800. Comment, biographies,
guided tours, and a search engine are included. Unrestricted access.

An extensive guide. Gives links to many sources from all periods in art history,
from prehistoric times to the twentieth century. Includes sources for both

artists.

A gateway to all types of art resources on the internet. Includes museums,
private galleries, sources for graphics and images, and much more.

Voice of the Shuttle
The arts section is a substantial compilation of resources. Well-organized
and thorough, this site provides links to museums, art schools, online information
about artists, electronic journals, art and technology, and other resources
for both the artist and the student of art.
WebMuseum, Paris
A collaborative work of companies, individuals, museums and galleries. Contains
artists' biographies, background information about periods and movements in
art, and reproductions of paintings. The famous paintings exhibit includes
works from more than 35 museums located all over the world; it has an artist
and a theme index. Unrestricted access.
World Wide Arts Resources
This web site points to museums, art schools, galleries, art publications,
calendars for shows and festivals, information about art schools, etc. Contains
an especially long of links to museums and art galleries.
WWW Virtual Library Museums
Page
Sponsored by the International Council of Museums, this site provides access
to the web pages of museums throughout the world. Many virtual collections,
with superb online reproductions of art by the greatest artists of all time
can be found here. Searchable by country or by specialty, with an added index
