The SDSU Library has a good collection of American Indian reference books, general books, and journals in the field. To search for books or periodical titles, search the online catalog called the PAC.

Books on the PAC

Using the PAC (online catalog at SDSU), check for books under subjects, words, author, or titles. The primary subject for books on American Indians or Native Americans is "Indians of North America." However, if you are seeking books on a specific tribe or topic, use that name. Some examples are the following:

Ethnic NewsWatch covers newspapers and other periodicals published by ethnic, minority, and native press. Includes Indian Country Today (formerly Lakota Times) and other American Indian newspapers.

LexisNexis Academic: access to the complete text of national and international news articles, and to business, legal and reference information. News coverage is generally from the late 1980's onward.

America History and Life: This is the most important periodical index in American Indian Studies, covering history journals from 1963 to the present.

Social Sciences

PAIS International (Public Affairs Information Service): index to journal articles, books, government documents and more for the subjects of public policy, social policy, and the social sciences in general. 1972 to the present.

PsycInfo: index containing references and summaries of the world's periodical and book literature in psychology and related disciplines, 1806 to the present.
