How to Create a PIN

What is a PIN?

  • For security reasons, the SDSU Library requires you to have a PIN (personal identification number).

  • A Library PIN is different from your SDSU identification number and your WebPortal/Blackboard password.

  • Your PIN is used to access and use a variety of electronic library services including Circuit and LINK+.

How do I create a PIN?

  • Create your own library PIN by using the Your Circ Record option available from the main menu of the Library Catalog (the PAC).

  • You will be asked to enter your name, Red ID, and PIN (Personal Identification Number).

  • Since you do not already have a PIN leave the PIN field blank and click the submit button. Your name and Red ID will appear and there will be two blanks for a PIN. Makeup a PIN and enter it twice.

How many characters can I use?

  • A PIN can contain up to 30 alpha or numeric characters.

  • Try to develop a PIN you will remember.

  • The PIN must not contain common trivial patterns. For example:
    • Do not use a character that is repeated three or more times (for example, aaaa, ababa, bbbb).
    • Do not use a set of up to four characters that is repeated two or more times (for example, abab, abcabc, abcdabcd).

What if I forget my PIN?
