Dean, Library and Information Access
San Diego State University is seeking a dynamic and energetic leader to serve as Dean of the Library and Information Access in support of a rapidly advancing research university. The successful candidate, in addition to understanding the fundamental role of the library, will possess the visionary capacity to identify and develop information technologies and integrate those technologies with traditional library collections and services. The Dean of Library and Information Access will provide the overall management for the Library’s resources, programs and services. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to provide strong, supportive leadership of Library staff and a demonstrated success working effectively with faculty and administrators outside the Library. The Dean must also provide the necessary leadership for significant Library fund raising and overall advancement as part of the University’s comprehensive campaign.
San Diego State University is the oldest and largest university in the region. The Library has a collection of over one million volumes, provides access to numerous electronic resources and offers a variety of user-focused services including over 100 public workstations, electronic classrooms and a state-of-the-art Media Center. Qualifications: An ALA-accredited master's degree. Experience with increased administrative responsibility in an academic or research library. Knowledge of information technologies as well as demonstrated experience successfully integrating those technologies within the library context. Demonstrated, successful fund raising experience. Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, academic deans, university administration and other library deans. Appreciation of diversity and ability to work effectively in a multicultural campus and community setting. A record of professional and scholarly activities.

Library Student Assistant Hiring
The Library is no longer accepting applications for student assistant positions this semester, except for Federal Work Study qualified students. Please apply for the Spring 2010 semester beginning in January 2010. Please apply in person at the library administration office in LA-2250, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Emailing or contacting library personnel (other than the library administration front office) to seek a job is discouraged. Please refrain from doing so. Students who contact library staff directly about jobs are NOT considered good candidates.
Temporary Librarian Pool
Although, we are currently not seeking to fill any temporary library faculty positions, the SDSU Library and Information Access maintains an open "pool" of applications, in case such a need arises. This applicant pool is reviewed, on an as-needed basis, for candidates whose qualifications most closely meet the needed requirements. Temporary appointments may be either full- or part-time. Principal responsibilities include but are not limited to: reference service, cataloging, collection development, and/or library instruction. Librarians wishing to be included in the "pool" are invited to submit a resume together with a cover letter outlining their interest. The pool is generally updated every six months, and applications may be renewed.Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent. Academic library experience preferred, but not required. Reference experience and familiarity with reference tools in sciences, social sciences, or humanities desirable; ability to apply technology to reference and instructional services desirable. Cataloging experience with particular language or subject expertise desirable.
Rank and Salary: Appointments are normally made at the Assistant Librarian rank; current full-time salary range is $47,460 - $57,060 per year.
