The SDSU Library Welcomes Four New Librarians

Steven Kiczek
In September 2006, Steven Kiczek joined the Cataloging Department, where he works primarily on monographs and
materials for Special Collections and on special projects. His specialties are romance and classical
languages and theology. He also works with Harmonie Park Press, writing abstracts of Italian
language articles in the music field.
Steven received his master of library science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and has a bachelor's and a master's degree
in Spanish. He previously worked as a cataloger at Princeton University. "Working at SDSU gives me the opportunity
to return to working with Spanish materials and to get involved with related professional organizations. Also, to grow
professionally by working with different materials such as manuscripts," he said.

Laurel Bliss
Laurel Bliss brings impressive credentials to her new post as the SDSU Library's fine arts librarian. She has a bachelor's
degree in history from Haverford College, a master's degree in history from the University of Virginia, and a master's of
library science from Southern Connecticut State University. "I enjoy working with books and people, so library work
seemed a good fit. I especially like answering questions at the reference desk and helping people learn how to do research,"
she said.
Laurel's past work experience also complements her new position at SDSU. She worked as a general reference librarian
at Yale University's Sterling Memorial Library, as the art and architecture librarian at Yale's Arts Library, and
as the assistant librarian at Princeton University's Marquand Library of Art and Archaeology. Currently, she is the
vice president/president elect of the American Library Association's New Members Round Table.

Anne Bahde
It's an understatement to say that Anne Bahde, Special Collections librarian, is passionate about her work. "I'll never
forget the moment I 'got' rare books, when I saw a First Folio of Shakespeare my first summer at the Newberry (Library).
I was overcome with awe, wonder, marveling at the history of this one book," Anne said. "I had that feeling, or at least
some shade of it, every single day I worked in a Special Collections department about a rare book, manuscript, or
archival collection. I seek to reproduce that feeling in everybody that comes into the department here, especially
undergraduates."
That love for "special" books drove Anne to earn her master's of library and information science degree, with a
concentration in special collections librarianship, at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 2002.
In addition to her early experience at the Newberry Library, Anne worked as a rare books assistant
at the University of Chicago's Special Collections Research Center while a student there, managed a used/antiquarian
bookshop for a year, and worked at Central Washington University in its Visiting Librarians Graduate Program
while she earned her second master's degree in English.

Keven Jeffery
A diverse background in online communication made Keven Jeffery the perfect choice for the newly created digital
technologies librarian position. A native of London, Ontario, Canada, Keven received both his bachelor's in socio-cultural
anthropology and his master's of library and information science degrees from the University of Western Ontario.
Following the completion of his MLIS, Keven worked as a Web producer for the Globe and Mail newspaper in Toronto.
Moving to the United States, he took a job at the Boston University Medical Center Library as a reference librarian
and Web coordinator. "While at Boston University, I helped to develop a set of online Evidence-Based Medicine
tutorials which have just been accepted for inclusion in the Association of American Medical Colleges MedEdPortal," he said.
Keven Jeffery can be reached by e-mail at keven.jeffery@sdsu.edu.
