Robert Fikes, reference librarian, published "African American Popular and Scholarly Interest in Central
and South America, 1960-2005," in Western Journal of Black Studies 29 (2), June 2005, and an online biography
of Shakespearean actor Roscoe Lee Browne at BlackPast.org. On October 28, 2006, at SDSU's annual War Memorial
ceremony, he was recognized for his research on SDSU military alumni and was interviewed and quoted in the
Daily Aztec and 360 Magazine.
Pamela Jackson, information literacy librarian, presented a session titled "Raising the Library's 'Cool' Quotient:
Enhancing Academic Environments with Social Networking Services" at the 2007 EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI)
Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 22, 2007. She also presented a session titled "The Information
Literacy Exploratorium: A Life Raft in the Sea of Student Learning Outcomes" at the Association of College &
Research Libraries (ACRL) 13th National Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 31, 2007.
Martha McPhail, reference librarian, gave a presentation on "What Is Happening in the
World of Cataloging?" at the 2007 Foro Transfronterizo de Bibliotecas in Tempe, Arizona, on
February 21. She is presenting on "Las Competencias para los Bibliotecarios en el Siglo XXI"
at the annual conference of the Asociaci—n de Bibliotecarios de El Salvador on May 22.
