SDSU Students Approve Library Use Fee

Ask any Library and Information Access staff member about what service enhancement students request most frequently and you will be told "longer hours." Although the Library has increased operating hours over the past two years and has shifted weekend hours to better meet usage patterns, the requests for additional Library and computing center hours have continued. Adding more than 40 general-use PCs to the reserves area proved especially popular, making the Reserve Book Room the focus of repeated requests for 24-hour operation. (more)

New Davies Honor Study Dedicated

Students enrolled in SDSU's Undergraduate Honors Program now have a new study room in the Library, thanks to the generosity of donor Darlene Davies. At the end of November, the Darlene Gould Davies Honors Study (Room LL428A) and the newly relocated Henry L. Janssen Honors Council Room (Room LL428D) were officially dedicated during a two-day celebration that featured Michael Collier, the poet laureate of Maryland. (more)

Recognition Is Best Served COLD

On November 16, 2001, library staff and faculty gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of two of our own: Kelley Martin, supervisor, Interlibrary Loan, and Brian Moore, PAC support coordinator, were both recipients of the Council of Library Directors (COLD) Outstanding Staff Award. Both received a $1,000 award for professional development from COLD. (more)

New Special Collections Librarian Brings a Wealth of Experience to SDSU

Special Collections' new director, Cristina Favretto, is more than just a librarian-she's a Renaissance woman. Born and raised in Rome, New York, Cristina moved to Trieste, Italy, when she was 10 and remained there for the next 10 years, returning to the United States when she was 20 to attend college. She earned her B.A. in English Literature and Art History from SUNY-Albany and her master's of library science and a certificate of advanced studies from the University of Pittsburgh. She also has many art credits from the Massachusetts Institute of Art. (more)

A Partnership for Poetry

During the past year, the Library has become co-host to many of the Hugh C. Hyde Living Writers Series readings, which bring to campus contemporary writers and poets currently active in their field. The guest writers read from their work and share their insights about writing with an audience of students, staff, faculty, and the general public. (more)
