Take
Part and Remember
Dia de los Muertos, a joyous Mexican tradition, is a day to remember
and spiritually reconnect with departed loved ones. Please join
us in the Chicano Collection, LL126, on November 1 for the construction
and decoration of a festive altar to honor the memory of those we
love. Bring copies of photos, mementos or objects that remind you
of your deceased loved ones to place on the altar. The altar will
be on display throughout November. Professor Emerita Janet Esser
will give a slide show/lecture to complement the exhibit on October
30 at 12:00 p.m. in LA 4450.

A Window
into the Soul of Mexico
In November, courtesy of Back from Tomboctou, the library will host
the exhibition "Mexican Retablos and Ex-Votos: A Window into
the Soul of Mexico," a celebration of Mexico's vibrant artistic
and religious heritage. Ex-votos are plaques produced as a sign
of thanks for an answered prayer, a miracle or a favor granted.
The exhibit will be held in the donor corridor from November 1 through
November 27. Professor Emerita Janet Esser will present a slide
show/lecture titled "¡Siempre Milagros! Mexican Retablos
and Ex-Votos in Historical Perspective" to complement the exhibit
on November 6 at 12:00 p.m. in LA 4450.
Poetry
from South of the Border
The Hugh C. Hyde Living Writers Series will present a reading and
reception for the authors and translators of Junction Press' bilingual
anthology Across the Lines: The Poetry of Baja California on November
19 at 7:00 p.m. in LA 2203.
