General Reference Exhibit 17.01 Web Photo Gallery
| Miniature Book Society 11/9/01 through 12/14/01 Miniature books have fascinated people since the discovery of writing. Before printing was invented, little books with hand-painted illuminations were lettered by hand. A miniature book is a real book that is no more than three inches tall. Many are smaller. Almost every topic you can imagine has been published in miniature. Share the pleasures of this unique and little-known hobby in General Reference with the November exhibit by the Miniature Book Society. This display was designed and built by Miniature Book Society member Jim Yarnell with books provided by the members. Click on any photo or photo filename to begin moving through the exhibit's web photo gallery. Our own Special Collections has a beautiful and quite large collection of miniature books of its own, from the estate of Mr. Don Hildreth. This collection numbers approximately 900 titles, most of which can be seen on display in the main reading room of Special Collections (M-F, 10 a.m. -4 p.m.). |
