Jewish Awareness Month (JAM)
4/5/02 through 4/26/02
Hillel and the Jewish Student Union at San Diego State University are displaying Jewish books, videos, and ritual items in the Donor Hall during April 5-26. The exhibit is free and is open during regular library hours.
The exhibit is part of a group of programs during Jewish Awareness Month created to educate Jewish students and the campus community about Jewish holidays, history, and customs.
On display is a Shabbat (Sabbath) table and challah -- the braided egg bread -- and a Kiddish cup, which is used for making the blessing over the wine. The exhibit includes ritual items used for Havadalah, which is the service that separates the Sabbath from the rest of the week.
JAM is generously funded by Judith Rosen and includes Holocaust Remembrance programs, PB&Jam sandwich making for the homeless, Rick Recht Live In Concert, and a Monte Carlo Night fundraiser to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and United Jewish Communities.
