As a child growing up in a family of eleven, I knew that providing us with toys was the last thing on my mother's mind. So when I received my first real doll named Trudy at age twelve, I was very excited and enjoyed her company for several years. When I was about fifteen years old, I passed Trudy on to my niece, but boy, did I ever regret it when I saw her again. Poor Trudy's dress was dirty, her socks and shoes were gone, and to my horror, so was her hair. |
| For a long time after that, I didn't get any more dolls until I started my present collection about seven years ago. Now I have twenty-five dolls of different sizes and from different ethnic backgrounds, but there's still room in my heart for a lot more. Always remembering how I longed for a doll when I was a little girl, I just know it's instant love when I see a certain doll, and I'm truly happy that I can fulfill that wish from so long ago. |
