Miniature Volkswagen Beetles Lynn Hawkes |
|
My husband is the original owner of a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle, which has been my primary car for the last 30-plus years. Somewhere along the way, I began to collect small toy replicas and other bits of VW Bug memorabilia. |

While some of these toys may be worth a little more now than they originally cost, my inspiration was purely the charm of the original design. They are fun to have around — and my children have played with many of them. One of the oldest cars I ever found (a very rusty original Matchbox Beetle) was given away by my then-5-year-old son. "Don't worry Mom - I gave him your worst car," he said to me. What could I say — further proof that it's hard not to love a Beetle! I like to think that these little icons are a tribute to a lasting legacy and a product of the 60s (somewhat like myself?). |
