Art Linkletter: A Retrospective Exhibition
March 13 - September 8, 2006
Love Library, Donor Hall
This retrospective exhibition honors the life and work of one of SDSU's most distinguished alumni, Art Linkletter, who recently donated his personal and professional papers to the University Archives. The exhibit highlights his achievements in television, radio, publishing and business and features artifacts from the collection including advertisements, original scripts, honorary awards, personal photographs and publications.
A popular television and radio personality for over 60 years, Art Linkletter starred in two of the longest running shows in broadcast history, House Party (CBS-TV and radio for 25 years) and People are Funny (NBC-TV and radio for 19 years). He was particularly adept at interviewing children, whose unrehearsed and sometimes painfully honest remarks formed the basis of several popular shows and publications. In 1957, he published a collection from these interviews, Kids Say the Darndest Things, which remains one of the top 14 best sellers in American publishing history.
At 93, Linkletter shows no signs of slowing down. He currently owns and runs at least eight businesses and serves on the board of directors for the YMCA, the Boy Scouts of America public relations committee and is the spokesman for the United Seniors Association. He also schedules over 70 national and international speaking engagements a year.
