Course Reading Delivery Options

Faculty Students
Blackboard Advantages: Controls availability of materials; low or no cost; posting is quick and easy if files are already in electronic form; readings are integrated with other course information; can deliver media in various formats.

Disadvantages: Training required; faculty member responsible for scanning and uploading materials; must assume responsibility for copyright compliance of content owned by others.
Advantages: Course information accessible anytime/anywhere with computer and internet access; can print electronic files; free except for minimal printing costs.

Disadvantages: Must have access to a computer with reliable internet access; pays for printing costs if hard copy desired.
ECR - Library Advantages: Library scans materials; obtains copyright permission as required; no training required; possibility of linking to library databases; no cost to faculty.

Disadvantages: Limited number of articles and chapters (10 article max; 1 article per journal issue; 1 chapter per book); turnaround time varies based on current work load.
Advantages: Course readings accessible anytime/anywhere with computer and internet access; free except for minimal printing costs; paper reserve backup for some readings.

Disadvantages: Must have access to a computer with reliable internet access; pays for printing costs if hard copy desired.
Montezuma Publishing Advantages: No limit on number of articles used; consolidates all materials in one organized package; print or electronic delivery; convenient method for ordering (email, web, phone); includes on campus pick-up service of materials; copyright clearances; pays royalties; no cost to faculty; can deliver media in various formats.

Disadvantages: Delivery of material depends on processing and production timelines (ranging from 2 -10 days).
Advantages: All readings are compiled in one organized package; conveniently purchased with other textbooks and school supplies at the bookstore; if in hard copy form, course materials can be taken anywhere.

Disadvantages: Requires purchase, cost includes royalty, processing, and production expenses.
Reserve Book Room (paper reserves) Advantages: Library books and faculty-owned books, as well as lecture notes, sample exams, single articles from journals and chapters from books, are available for short term loan.

Disadvantages: Availability of materials dependant on the Reserve Book Room workload, with possible delays of up to 10 days at the start of the semester.
Advantages: Materials are available for checkout any time the Reserve Book Room is open.

Disadvantages: Must have an identification card in order to check out materials. Only allowed to check out items for short term loan periods: 2 hour, 24 hour, or 3 day.
